01 / How it begins
A conversation and a sheet of paper
A commission starts with what the work has to do — worn where, by whom, for what reason. Not with a reference image. The house does not reproduce another maker's object, and does not begin from a picture of one.
02 / The drawing
Direction is settled before material is touched
The form is resolved on paper first — proportion, the position of the break, where the line ends. You see the drawing and can change it. Nothing is cut until the drawing is agreed, because after that point a change is a new work rather than an adjustment.
03 / Material and stone
Material must change the form
Gold records touch. Titanium changes weight. A stone is cut to the design rather than the design compromised around the stone. Where a commission carries a stone, it is sourced and shown before it is set.
04 / Terms
Confirmed in writing, before making
Price, measurement, material and the production window are confirmed in writing at the point the drawing is agreed. A commission is made to one person and cannot be offered to anyone else, so it is not returnable.
05 / To begin
Say what the work has to do
Write to the studio with the occasion, the person, and anything the work must carry. The first conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
